The Iyego Coffee Growers Cooperative Society is a member owned co-op established in 1959 in Central Kenya’s Murang’a region. The society focuses on educating its 7,528 members on every step of coffee production, from soil management and plant nutrition through harvest and processing which includes a nursery project that develops rust and disease resistant varietals which it can offer members at subsidized prices. In recent years, Iyego has invested in digital receipt tracking for its farmer members in order to increase transparency and efficiency. This year’s lot comes from the Marimira washing station, one of five processing facilities owned by the Iyego Cooperative.
