fairtrade organic

Layo Teraga is a 1,800 member cooperative in the East Guji zone and part of the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union. OCFCU is the largest Fairtrade coffee producer in Ethiopia, supporting over 200 smaller producer coops (like Layo Teraga) with a combined total of over 200,000 farmer members. OCFCU has been able to work on large scale climate mitigation projects and deal in carbon credit trading to provide additional benefits to their network. A "washed" coffee means that the inner seed of the coffee cherry (what we may call a "bean") is extracted and fermented in water, ensuring any additional fruit pectins do not dry on the seed.
